Police reform

Pillars 

• Give police better tools to de-escalate
• End qualified immunity  
• Higher Pay = Better Selection
• Demilitarization
• More Social Service Response Units.
• Required Mental Health Services for Officers  

We need the police, and there needs to be reform. These two truths can exist simultaneously. From reduced budgets, mandatory therapy for police officers, a more in-depth selection process, more social services response units, no more qualified immunity, demilitarization of police, we have the national guard and most of the military force stateside we do not need three domestic militaries.

I think the most pressing concern is no more unnecessary death. 
We need to update their equipment. Currently, the only non-lethal/de-escalation option they carry are tasers and they are terrible. You have to be close to the suspect. Their design is awful. Their fail rate is high, and they can only be used once. All other non-lethal “projectiles” are constituted as “riot gear.” Their only other option is a 9mm with hollow-point ammunition that is designed for concussive damage and to inflict damage. 
The police need a non-lethal option that can be carried on person. I have started creating something called a diaper round. I won’t profit from it because I don’t believe people should profit off life.

The key is space keeps both the officer and whomever they are trying to arrest safe because as long as there is distance, there is no immediate threat, and you can deescalate. They can move people to safety, corral the perpetrator. Then if a round needs to be fired, it will break ribs. Broken ribs are easier to fix than a bullet hole. Being a 6’2, 240-pound black man, I would rather have broken ribs than a bullet hole. 

Then if the officer is wrong, we are able to investigate a non-lethal case, and that officer will be given a sentence that’s not for murder. The person who was shot can be given a predetermined amount that will be a lot less because no one is dead. I believe in most cases, no cop wants to kill someone. We need to give the police the tools to deescalate and not kill.
