2nd Amendment

 Pillars

  • Track magazine purchases 1 per year per gun
  • Limit magazine capacity
  • Make CCW’s required to carry in public
  • Take on social responsibility as gun owners]

I am a gun owner and have a CCW(concealed carry). I have a 9mm, shotgun and a bolt action rifle. I have designed tech for guns in an effort to make them safer and reduce school shootings. I think our right to own guns needs to be protected. For those who think it’s terrible to own guns, I got my gun because a man who lived behind me said he would kill my son, of course, followed by the ever tasteful and low-hanging fruit of racial epithets and slurs. I called the police, they came and he was arrested, but they can’t materialize at 2 am if he decided to break in.

I got my concealed for the same fundamental reason I have Black Lives Matter on the back of my motorcycle. Some guy in a truck tried to hit my son and me multiple times. I escaped called the police; they said it was my fault. I gave them the make, model, temporary license plate, description of the man, and they said it wasn’t enough information and didn’t investigate. I decided I needed to protect my son, and myself so I got my CCW.

With all that said, we need gun reform. As gun owners we are the ones that are stalling this because of our 2nd amendment rights. Which says right to bear arms. It says nothing about magazine capacity or type. There is no practical reason to own an assault rifle for a private citizen. They are incredible pieces of technology; I get it. The only practical use of these pieces of technology is for offensive shooting purposes. That’s it. We need to take responsibility as a group and say I might not use this for evil, but someone else might and they do. One day it might be someone you love. I wonder if that would make you reconsider your stance.

Magazine size

I had extended magazines as the shootings kept happening. I couldn’t in good conscience keep them because they were being used to hurt people, so I destroyed them. According to my research, most Defensive shootings happen within 0-20 feet, with 1-3 shots fired. With this knowledge why do we need 20 round magazines, plain and simple we don’t. If you need 20 rounds to put three on target on behalf of the American people, please do not carry. I get it; loading magazines is not fun but when life is lost, isn’t a little extra time loading at the range seem like a fair compromise?

Assault rifles

If you’re reasoning for assault rifles is, it’s my protection against the government to keep them in check. When it comes to private citizens‘ armaments, how many battleships, missiles, military airplanes, grenades are in circulation? We are outmatched. The way war is waged has changed. When the constitution was written due to prevailing military tactics of the time, you just lined up across from each other and shoot. It’s no longer about numbers; it’s about technology.

Tactically, the government controls water and electricity, which controls everything essentially. They could shut down both then wait. Utah might last longer because of food storage, but even then, it’s only a matter of time.

If you’re a part of the group, who think of the terms of foreign invasion, I’ll say refer to the above reasonings and this, if a foreign enemy has made it to America and have secured a beachhead. That means our military has been beaten back quite severely, which a few people with assault rifles won’t help.

What to do?

We have a couple of options to consider. Some want an all-out ban on assault rifles that most gun owners don’t like, but if we don’t come to the table with some solutions, that‘s exactly what will happen.

Semi-automatic guns need magazines to work. Those are not regulated, so we start tracking magazines because someone with ill intentions will need magazines to fulfill it. If we say you can only buy one magazine a year per gun, and if you don’t have a gun on file, you cannot buy magazines. If someone wants to do something terrible, it will take them a lot longer to get the required items. Hopefully, with time, they can realize that they don’t need to hurt someone. There is no need for extended magazines, so we cut down the number of rounds; at the range, more time might be spent loading magazines. We will save so many lives in the process. We keep the ability to own all types of guns.

Limiting magazine capacity is important because people can escape during the reload. Most failures happen on reload. It also will give someone a chance to bring them down during reload.

Concealed Permits

The states who are getting rid of concealed permits should have lawsuits brought against them. The number of shootings have already increased. During this time where our country is divided and angry. Do you think it’s a good idea to give anybody the right to carry without a license? The 4-hour course is a deterrent.

What about our police? Now every stop is a potentially violent interaction because they don’t know who has a gun and who doesn’t. If everyone has a gun, how will they know who is the perpetrator is, they won’t.It’s already happened once a man shot someone in self-defense then was shot and killed by police because they didn’t know who the shooter was. More people are going to get hurt and killed. Deregulation of something with the power to kill is not needed right now.

As gun owners, we need to step up to the plate and take on some social responsibility. If you don’t like this, bring me some ideas. I’m all ears something needs to happen. Be a part of the solution, not the problem.
